Meet Our Newest Instructor: Sterling Sloot
Finding calm, connection, and curiosity—one breath at a time.
At Lakeshore Recreation, we’re always proud to welcome instructors who truly embody our mission of fitness, fun, and community—and our newest Hatha Yoga instructor, Sterling Sloot, brings all three in a beautifully grounded and inspiring way.
If you’ve ever stayed after Muscle Mania on a Sunday morning, you may have already experienced Sterling’s calming presence in her Hatha Yoga class at 11:45 AM—a class designed to help you slow down, reconnect, and move with intention.
A Lifelong Connection to Yoga
Sterling’s journey into yoga started early—at just 12 years old. What began as a way to manage anxiety quickly became something much deeper.
“Yoga allowed me to escape my mind and step into my body… immersing myself in the moment—and I have been practicing ever since.”
That early introduction sparked a lifelong passion that eventually led her to complete her Yoga Teacher Certification after university. And fittingly, her teaching journey began right here at Lakeshore—a place she already loved as both a staff member at The Club and a member herself.
Why Hatha Yoga?
Having explored many styles—Power, Yin, Vinyasa, and more—Sterling found herself continually drawn back to Hatha Yoga.
“Hatha Yoga is unrestricting and truly encourages curiosity with one’s body, strengthening a mind-to-body connection that I love.”
Her classes reflect that philosophy. Expect a slower-paced, welcoming environment that blends deep stretching, gentle strengthening, and breath-focused movement. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, Sterling creates space for you to meet your body exactly where it’s at.
More Than Movement
For Sterling, yoga goes far beyond the physical.
“My goal is for people to leave feeling relieved of tension and stress… and to feel they understand their bodies a little bit deeper.”
Her approach emphasizes not just flexibility and strength, but also mental clarity, stress reduction, and mindfulness—something many of us can benefit from, especially during busy or challenging seasons.
A Class for Every Body
One of the most refreshing things about Sterling’s classes is how inclusive they are.
There’s no expectation to be flexible, experienced, or “good” at yoga. With plenty of modifications and encouragement to listen to your own body, her class truly is for everyone—from beginners to seasoned movers.
Beyond the Studio
When she’s not on the mat, you’ll likely find Sterling with a book in hand, diving into topics around health and wellness, or working toward her next goal—becoming a certified meditation coach. You might also run into her at Starbucks, where she brings that same warm, welcoming energy to her full-time role.
Join Sterling on the Mat
Whether you’re looking to improve mobility, reduce stress, recover from injury, or simply carve out time for yourself, Sterling’s class offers the perfect opportunity.
