If you’ve ever taken Sculpt with Mandy Kent, you know it’s more than just a workout — it’s an experience rooted in science, safety, strength, and self-belief.
Mandy's Journey into Fitness
Mandy’s journey into fitness began in 1987 while studying Kinesiology at McMaster University, where hands-on physical practicums opened her eyes to the power of movement.
From varsity athletics to packed fitness classes at the YMCA in Montreal, Mandy developed a lifelong appreciation for group fitness — not just for the physical benefits, but for the energy, connection, and joy it brings.
Now a long-time and much-loved instructor at Lakeshore, Mandy brings a rare blend of education, experience, and authenticity to every class.
What Makes Mandy’s Sculpt Class Stand Out?
Mandy describes her teaching style in three words: safety, technique, and form (with a healthy dose of fun and real talk thrown in).
With a strong background in kinesiology and a passion for posture and movement quality, Mandy believes:
Strength training is essential at every age
Good form comes before heavier weights
Mobility, posture, and range of motion matter
Bone health and long-term function are non-negotiable
Her Sculpt classes are intentionally designed to meet people where they’re at — whether you’re new to strength training or have been active for years.
More Than Muscles
As a mental health professional, Mandy weaves mindset, intention, and breathwork into her classes.
She encourages participants to reflect on why they showed up and how they want to feel when they leave — taller, stronger, calmer, or simply proud they came.
One of her favourite parts of class? Foam rolling — recovery, release, and care for the body she’s been teaching long before it was trendy.
Community First
Mandy often says she’s never regretted coming to the gym — and that joy shows up every Thursday morning.
Sculpt is challenging, supportive, empowering… and famously followed by coffee upstairs, because connection matters just as much as movement.
Her belief aligns perfectly with what Lakeshore stands for:movement, joy, and community — at every stage of life.
Try Sculpt with Mandy Thursdays at 9:15 AM Lakeshore Recreation Centre.
