GROUP Class Descriptions



BODY BLAST: This combo class alternates between cardio and muscle conditioning exercises using a variety of drills and equipment. Boost your metabolism and burn calories all day after this workout hits  every muscle group using a variety of equipment. Get set for blast-off!

CARDIO-STRENGTH - A blend of cardio and weights with a primary focus on improving overall strength.  Increase your muscle to rev up your metabolism while improving your agility and endurance. These classes utilize a variety of equipment to help keep your fitness routine fun and fresh.

HIIT IT: This class is a high energy, total body, heart pumping aerobic and strength conditioning workout. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts are a popular kind of exercise that involve exerting your maximum energy during short periods of time. This workout require short bursts of high-intensity strength and cardio exercises followed by brief periods of recovery.  It will have you sweating, smiling and having fun! You will experience various exercises and equipment in this upbeat  class taught by Jen & Jeff.

LITE FIT: A lower intensity and lower impact class designed to increase energy, coordination, strength & flexibility while improving posture & balance.  A variety of equipment will be used and modifications provided so every participant can benefit from the workout

LIGHTER FIT: This class is designed to improve strength, balance and flexibility, regardless of current physical ability.  The exercises will be gentle and low impact, using a variety of equipment including a chair, light weights, bands, etc.  This class is ideal for seniors, beginners to exercise and individuals with mobility issues.  We have an elevator for those who cannot use the stairs. 

MUSCLE MANIA: Build strength, add definition, increase bone density and decrease body fat by INCREASING lean muscle. Research has proven that by adding lean muscle to the body you can speed up your metabolism and burn more calories working out and at rest. Use a variety of weight training equipment to change the shape of your body - no muscle gets neglected!

SCULPT FIT: This class offers a variety of challenging exercises designed to target and tone your abs, back, chest, shoulders, arms, legs and butt. Stretching is emphasized, to increase range of motion and help you achieve a long, lean, toned look.   This is a low impact class.

SPIN:  These classes provide an intense cardio workout while still catering to participants of all fitness levels. Our instructors will lead you through a series of drills to maximize your caloric burn. The best part is that you control your own resistance and speed allowing you to continuously progress forward from your current fitness level. *16 Participant bikes—call to reserve a bike 48 hours ahead

YOGA: A total mind-body practice that combines strengthening and stretching poses using breath work and relaxation to reduce muscle tension and promote flexibility.




Our weight room covers all of the equipment you will need to get a good workout in! We have free weights and a good variety of fitness machines available.


We have a SPIN ROOM, STRETCH ROOM and POWER HOUSE which all contain top of the line equipment.

Children 12-16 are permitted in the weight room but must have an introduction to the gym given by a trainer for safety which will include gym etiquette.

Children under the age of 8 are not permitted in the weight room at any time. 

Children 8-11 are permitted to use the racquetball courts but in the weight room & whirlpool they must be closely supervised by a parent/guardian.

Children 4-11 are not permitted in the whirlpool or sauna without adult supervision.

Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the whirlpool or sauna at any time.

Children 4 and older must use the locker room of their gender.

Ann MacKay - Certified Personal Trainer, Indoor Group Cycle Certified, fluid strength certified, CFP PTS

Ann has always enjoyed being active.  Her parents philosophy was to expose their children to as many sports and experiences as possible knowing that as adults they would continue with those they enjoyed.  Skiing, tennis, pickleball and grandchildren are things she loves.  While overseeing Lakeshore Recreation as the owner/general manager, Ann has been teaching fitness classes for over 35 years.  Her belief is that any form of movement is beneficial to our quality of life.

KAREN FEHR -Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness instructor, fluid strength certified, CFP PTS, BA, B ED


Although originally from the area Karen taught overseas for over 10 years and worked at an International Medical Recruitment company in Toronto for 7 years.  She has combined her teaching and business skills with her passion for physical fitness.  She has a versatile approach to personal training which will help to ensure every program is effective and tailored to each individual’s specific requirements.  Karen’s clientele includes beginners and athletes, people wanting to gain strength, rehab an injury or lose weight.  She believes that making positive & realistic lifestyle changes will endure and improve quality of life.   Karen promotes a balanced and sustainable lifestyle.  She is passionate about helping others and remaining current in an industry that is constantly changing.

JEN DUNBAR - Certified Personal Trainer, Indoor Group Cycle Certified, Certified Nutrition & Wellness Specialist   CFP PTS, CFP NWS    


Jen has been a Certified Personal Trainer with CanFit Pro since 2008.  Since that time she has continued to add to her fitness education with: Certified Nutrition and Wellness, PiYO Certification, Group Fitness Instructor and Spin.  She was a Wellness Consultant for EWSNetwork and helped businesses achieve national recognition for their wellness programs. Jen is currently working on her Human Movement Specialist Certification with the BrookBush Institute.  Jen's passion for fitness stems from wanting to help her clients to have a life long journey with wellness. Her passion comes from changing people's  view on what fit looks like. Jen's motto is "I'm not training to be skinny, I'm training for longevity."

Mandy kent - Certified Personal Trainer, Run-Fit Specialist, CFP PTS, B.P.E.


Mandy has been teaching fitness classes at Lakeshore since 2006.  Her classes are known to focus on strength, balance, flexibility, and posture.  Participants are motivated to use good technique as it is key to safe, effective results.  As a certified Run-Fit Instructor and year round running enthusiast, Mandy encourages people to discover their own love of running. 

Jeff Virgo - Certified Personal Trainer, Indoor Group Cycle Certified, CFP PTS      

Jeff Virgo served 5 years in the Canadian Armed forces with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI). While on duty Jeff suffered spinal cord injury (SCI) resulting in paralysis from the waist down. With extensive rehabilitation & hard work Jeff regain the ability to walk again. He has enjoyed many experiences post injury from being one of the Torch Barriers for the Parapan American Games in Toronto, completing in two Invictus Games (UK in 2014 and Orlando in 2016) for wounded warriors of allied nations, as well has raced in sprint kayak over the last 3 years. Jeff has also work with youth as Program Manager at multi sports camp in Quebec, from coaching soccer and being advocate for accessibility & being active.  As a fitness instructor & personal trainer at Lakeshore Recreation his persistence, positive attitude and sense of humour have made him popular with other members.  Jeff is very active with youth soccer in Saugeen Shores as a coach and member of the executive.  

Val Morano- Certified Fitness Instructor, Piloxing Certified, CFP FIS


Val has been a member of Lakeshore for over 15 years.  She is a very social person and loves group fitness. Val is a slave to the beat and loves good choreography and music to dance to.   Val loves to participate in the coffee socials after class and before she has to leave for her 'other' job as a Speech Pathologist, which she has done for 20 years. She enjoys playing team sports like hockey and baseball. 

Bill Buckton - Indoor Group Cycle Certified, BSc, NCCP Hockey Instructor


Bill Buckton is an all-around athlete, Coach and Instructor.  He played NCAA and professional hockey, coached various levels of hockey for 25 years, and was a certified tennis & squash instructor.  Bill has been an avid cyclist for over 20 years, specializing in road bikes and road bike performance.  He has cycled mountains in Southern Spain, Hawaii, Colorado, the Hilly Hundred challenge in Wisconsin, and captured the bronze medal for his age division in the Horseshoe Valley Centurion.  Bill is a member of the Saugeen Shores Cycling Club.  He was one of the original members of Lakeshore Recreation when it opened in 1983.   Bill teaches several Spin Classes.


Melissa pinnegar- Certified yoga Instructor

Melissa has been a dedicated yoga student for many years, and in early 2015 became a teacher of the practice she loves. She now shares her passion with all levels of students and offers something for everyone. Melissa’s style of yoga is alignment and heart based hatha. As a mom Melissa is truly inspired to live a very active and healthy lifestyle. Some of her favourite activities, aside from yoga, are biking, hiking, swimming, and snowboarding.

Lorraine Salisbury -  Certified Personal Trainer & Fitness Instructor, Indoor Group Cycle Certified CFP PTS, CFP FIS


Lorraine has been a certified fitness instructor/personal trainer for 24 yrs. She has instructed classes of all types and fitness levels.  Lorraine joined the Lakeshore Team in 2004. She is known for her quick wit and quick moves! Lorraine loves instructing so much she recently stated "I'll be teaching here with my walker someday".  Lorraine teaches Spin and Yoga and as one of our most versatile instructors, can sub in for any class.


Lori Walker


Lori has been studying and practicing Yoga since 2013 with over 1,500 hours of certifications and thousands of hours of deep personal practice.  Her teaching style is easy, gentle, and effective.  Lori is drawn to plants and enjoys nothing more than traipsing through the woods capturing their seasonal evolution on camera. 


A lifelong resident of Port Elgin, Lori enjoys a game of squash with her husband, Jeff and cooking scrumptious meals with her children.
