Lakeshore Recreation is a multifaceted facility offering a variety fitness and exercise classes, yoga, spinning, weight room facilities, personal training, racquet sports, and a pro shop to members of all ages and fitness levels in the community of Saugeen Shores.   We are proud to offer an all-inclusive environment in which people of all walks of life can accomplish their recreation goals at their own pace. 

The General Manager / Fitness Director supervises all fitness programs and business operations including reception, scheduling, human resources, maintenance, finance, membership sales/retention, website administration, and marketing/social media. 

The ideal candidate combines a personable nature, a passion about fitness, and robust management/business skills to lead a team of energetic and dedicated employees.  Success in this position requires keen organizational skills, business acumen, and a customer service approach. 

The position: 

  • 25 – 35 hour per week permanent position.

  • Passion for health, fitness, and recreation

  • Three to five years experience in a management role - preferred (Fitness, Sports, Golf Management)

  • Computer Proficiency (Microsoft Suite, web page updates, social media posts) and the ability to learn systems quickly.

  • Strong leadership, team building and coaching skills.

  • Exceptional customer service and conflict resolution skills.

  • A hard working, enthusiastic and energetic management style!

  • Organization, problem solving and planning skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • listen carefully to member requests and help to resolve any member issues and questions.

  • maintain a welcoming atmosphere for all members, prospective members and guests and ensure staff follows superior customer service guidelines.

  • cultivate a service-oriented environment that brings out the best in the instructors and team members.

  • recruit the best talent and keep them engaged; motivating Instructors is second nature.

  • build relationships to connect with members and their families. Your welcoming nature brings them back month after month for more.

  • lead by example and are a role model for staff members, effectively coaching and mentoring them.

  • establish goals, plan strategies, improve business systems, and evaluate success to meet targets. 

  • resolve employee issues or concerns and manage progressive discipline and termination as needed.

  • enhance marketing efforts by ensuring that staff are aware and trained on all marketing promotions.

  • be future-oriented – visualizing and suggesting opportunities to expand and enhance the business and cultivate this approach with staff.

  • responsibly authorize expenditures and refunds.

  • create and utilize statistical tracking and reports to celebrate success and plan improvements (weekly, monthly, annually)

  • provide backup support for any employee who is absent.

  • exhibit exceptional phone, email, and computer skills, and always respond to enquiries promptly.

  • pay attention to the minute details and delegate team members to ensure that Lakeshore is a “safety first”, polished and professional operation.

  • multitask successfully and calmly, always keeping the big picture in mind
